Hartamas Design Associates has crafted the new Malaysian headquarters for Ocean Network Express (ONE) in i-City, Shah Alam. This dynamic 11,100 sqft workspace is more than just an office; it is a physical representation of ONE’s global identity, maritime heritage, and people-first culture. Set within a building shaped like a ship’s bow, our design tells a compelling story of purpose, journey, and connection.
A Grand Arrival: Brand and Technology United
The visitor’s journey begins in the main lobby, where the ONE brand makes a bold first impression. A stunning full-ceiling LED screen creates an immersive welcome experience, displaying corporate visuals and marketing content. This feature immediately establishes ONE as a dynamic, tech-forward leader in the transportation industry.
Navigating Collaboration: Spaces with Meaning
Our design philosophy weaves ONE’s values and cultural roots throughout the office.
- Cultural Motifs: The Seigaiha wave pattern, a traditional Japanese symbol of growth and resilience, is used on glass partitions. This provides privacy and visual rhythm while maintaining an open feel.
- The Bridge: The main boardroom, named “The Bridge,” is inspired by a maritime command centre. It features a table shaped like a ship’s deck, container-inspired benches, and a cosmic wave pattern on the ceiling, creating a powerful space for leadership and strategic direction.
- The Ocean Room: This unique breakout space simulates the view from a cruise ship deck at sunrise, with a silhouetted ONE vessel on the horizon. It serves as a calming area for pause and inspiration, reminding the team of new beginnings.
Inspiring Workspaces: Identity in Every Detail
We ensured that every part of the office reinforces the ONE brand and empowers its people.
- Executive Vision: Executive rooms feature a sophisticated halftone graphic of a mountain range behind each desk. This striking visual is crafted entirely from the letters “O,” “N,” and “E,” subtly embedding the company’s identity while symbolising strength and stability.
- Vibrant and Functional: The open-plan workspace is organised into vibrant zones of Pandan Green, Mandarin Orange, and Royal Purple, reflecting ONE’s core values of sustainability, care, and communication. Integrated coffee corners encourage informal connection and collaboration.
The Social Hub: Fostering Community
The pantry and multipurpose hall form the social heart of the office. A wavy ceiling feature and sand-like floor tiles create a coastal atmosphere, while ocean-blue mosaic tiles add texture and colour. The standout feature is a wall made from rigged shipping container panels, painted in ONE’s iconic magenta. This bold statement, complete with a suspended, colour-changing neon ONE logo, anchors the space firmly in the company’s core industry.
